Why Volunteers Matter: Building Connection Through the Arts
Volunteers do more than support programs. They help create the encouragement, connection, and sense of belonging that make meaningful arts experiences possible.
At Impact Arts Council, our Art for All and Music for All programs at the Burkett Center are designed to create inclusive creative experiences that encourage confidence, self-expression, engagement, and connection. While professional teaching artists and musicians guide each session, volunteers play an important role in helping shape the environment that makes those experiences possible.
Volunteers become much more than extra support in the classroom. They become encouraging voices, familiar faces, and important members of an experience students look forward to each week.
Throughout weekly sessions, volunteers work alongside professional teaching artists and musicians to support creative engagement and student participation. They help students engage with activities, participate comfortably, express themselves creatively, and experience success within a supportive environment. That may include assisting with projects, encouraging involvement during music activities, celebrating completed work, and helping create positive, engaging experiences throughout each session.
A volunteer helping a student complete an art project, celebrating a musical accomplishment, or simply offering encouragement during a challenging moment can help create an experience that feels welcoming and meaningful.
Often, it is those moments of encouragement and connection that can have the greatest impact.
The arts have a unique ability to bring people together. Through creativity, individuals can build confidence, communicate, express themselves, and experience meaningful moments of accomplishment and joy. When volunteers choose to share their time, they help make those opportunities possible.
While this impact is especially visible through our Art for All and Music for All programs at the Burkett Center, volunteers help support many of Impact Arts Council’s programs, events, and community initiatives throughout the year. Whether assisting in a classroom, helping at a festival, supporting a community event, or working behind the scenes, volunteers help create opportunities for creativity, connection, and engagement across our community.
Impact Arts Council is currently accepting volunteer applications for individuals interested in supporting our Art for All and Music for All programs at the Burkett Center. Selected volunteers participate in weekly Friday programming during the school year, complete orientation and background requirements, and become part of a collaborative team dedicated to creating meaningful arts experiences for students of all abilities.
Volunteering with the Burkett Center is more than giving your time. It is an opportunity to encourage creativity, support meaningful participation, and help create a space where every individual feels seen, supported, and valued.
Because the most meaningful impact is not always measured by what is created during a class or activity.
Sometimes it is found in a moment of confidence.
A new connection.
A reason to participate.
A sense of belonging.
And often, those moments begin because someone chose to show up.
At Impact Arts Council, we believe art does more than create projects.
It builds confidence.
It creates connection.
And it reminds us that Art Impacts Everyone.
